Skiing in southern France in April, possible?
Hi,
I'll go skiing in southern France (Alpes du Sud) sometime during April. I've found these maps showing the location of different ski resorts: http://www.cis.hut.fi/~kimmo/sports/ski/france.gif http://ski-jungle.com/chaletfinder/images/francemap.gif Anyone know which place - as far south as possible - that would have decent amounts of snow? Preferably around Vars or Les Orres or such but I could go as far up as Val Thorens if truly neccessary. (I'd be going from Nice driving a car) Any tips appreciated! |

Isola maybe, but this year there is a drought in the Southern Alpes Preferably around Vars or Les Orres or such but I could go as far up as Val Thorens if truly neccessary. (I'd be going from Nice driving a car) Val Thorens is in the Northern Alps, it is usually open until the 2nd week of May. Hopefully it will snow before then as the snow has really suffered below 2500 meters this week. |

I didn't even think there would be any snow left theredue to the current warm weather. Preferably around Vars or Les Orres or such but I could go as far up as Val Thorens if truly neccessary. Then I suppose everything south of Val Thorens is a risky bet? |

Then I suppose everything south of Val Thorens is a risky bet? There is snow under 2500 meters, but the snow is not good, wet and dangerous. I don't know about the Southern Alps, but it might be even worse than close to where I am ( Geneva ). We had sun for 10 days and now rain and an average of 10 to 15 ° Celsius. Imagine how bad it is for the snow:-( I was in Les Gets last Sunday and decided it was over for me this season, too dangerous. |
