Chamonix in the French Alps, killing two people.

They were probably rubbed out by the Chamonix mafia.

(This was originally the mountain guides but now seems to be dominated
by Gaullist employees of the French government, who have the regional
administration in their pocket. Countless complaints have been made to
the police, courts etc, but the victims are afraid to speak out, and
anyway everyone's in league with the villains. See fr.rec.montagne for
copious details.)

The bandits were able to hack their other comrade free from the wreckage
and he is apparently out of danger.

Helicopters can't actually fly, they're just so ugly the earth repels them

Holy Jeez, there's a LOT more involved than is apparent in that news
blurb. Maybe the Basques were in charge of the Lift that did the
catazpulting of the helicopter in the first place!

No, but there are lots of Basques running ski lifts in the Pyrenees -
shock, horror etc.
