Default Cut down swix team pole

I need to cut an inch or so off a broken swix Team skate
pole to be able to use it as a backup classic pole.

Do I just wrap it with tape and cut with a hack saw?

Or should I do something else?

Thanks,

Yeah, a dull hack saw is the easiest tool to use. Just
checking....make sure to cut the grip end of the pole. I say that
because it's more often the basket end that breaks. If it's the basket
end that broke (thought exp here), I suppose you could find a larger
diameter basket that might work.

It is the basket end that broke. Why can't I cut that end?

It is not terribly distorted there, I might be able to get
the basket over it. Definitely if I was able to file it a bit
around the edges.

Bjorn diameter basket that might work.

Jay

I think you mean a sharp hack saw rather than a dull one??

The poles are tappered. I don't remember the various poles, but I
think Swix is a 9 mm basket. If you didn't take off much, you might be
able to fit a 10 mm (Excel?) basket. If you have to go bigger, I think
you run into the large, "I'm gonna ski with a wineskin" type baskets.
You can try to stick the existing basket on there now, and you should
see the problem.

I think Jay meant dull which I agree with.

Ever heard of a trick carpetners use by making nails dull to prevent
them from cracking wood?

A sharp blade doesn't slide across the carbon fiber, it tends to dig
in and stop. A dull blade slides and cuts plenty with each stroke.

I do not have a hack saw, and presumably a new one would
be sharp. Do I have to cut a lot of steel with it before
working on my pole?

Hack saw blades come with different teeth sizes (teeth per inch). A
finer blade (e.g. 32 teeth/inch) would better than a course blade
(e.g. 14 teeth per inch). A carbon steel blade will dull faster than
a bimetal blade. If you wrap the shaft with masking tape, the tape
will help guide the cut and protect the shaft if you have a bad draw.

Yes, the taper is not that visible to the eye, but I finally
got around to checking, and the old tip will not fit. I will
measure it sometime, to see if I can get a tip to fit. Not
a huge priority, as it is a backup, and I do not break poles
very often.

Thanks,
