Heh, sorry. I spent a lot of yesterday in our CAD lab digitizing a topo map
and making a TIN of it... that stuff messes with your mind, man. Plus I
haven't been skiing since I got my new boots because I don't have a frickin'
car here. Bah.

I don't know where you are but the fact that you put boots over a car is cool!

Boston. In college - 'rents won't let me have the 3rd car thats basically
sitting around at home. I was tempted to buy a beater, but insurance,
parking ($600 a semester!!!!!) and so on basically killed that idea. Plus
the thought of dealing with it at 5AM in the winter on a long, possibly
snowy trip... nah.

I did, however, put my mountain bike totally in front of my car. That one
cost me about 3 grand - and 90% of it was sponsorship discount or employee
discount

Boston is a great city and I have spent a lot of time there on business. So, I
understand you car situation! I avoided renting them due to the hassle of
parking. I did get to extend my business stays to include skiing at Sunday
River and Killington. While they were not the same as the West they were very
enjoyable. Don't they have bus service to those places?

Who is "they"?

They = Volkl USA, or whoever their distributor is here. I've never dealt
with ski companies personally, but I have dealt with a bunch of bike
companies - and its amazing how much they'll help out.

Just worked for a friend of mine for a three year old ski that he did
simlar (but less horrific) damage to. Called up and they (different
company) sent him a new single ski -- same year, same topskin etc out of
a warehouse in OOtah.

Worth a try.

Well, sort off.

Looks like a complete loss...irreparable.

Other than breaking a few pairs of skis, this is about the worst
damage I have ever done to a ski base/edge.

Volkl Vertigo G-3 (191cm) with about 20 days on them.

This is a 6" (approx) core shot, via the ski edge.

Damage occurred on the Cirque Traverse (rock city) at Snowbird.

WARNING, referenced photos are very nasty, graphic, etc., etc., etc.

Coulda been your head - good thing the ski was there for you.

P.S., FOR SALE: 1 pair of Volkl Vertigo G-3's, cheap.
