I'm not sure about the universiality of the phenomenon, but almost everywhere I
go I am running some song or other through my head. The recent death of Warren
Zevon made me realise that "Lawyers, Guns and Money" was one of the songs that I
often replayed mentally while skiing. When we ski with our kids "Freight Train
Blues" is almost always sung by one or all of us. Since our sport is very
rhythmic I was wondering what music people sing to themselves or listen to on a
portable music device while they're skiing.

I had one of my lifetime favorite ski outings at Stokely while listening to Crowded
House...and...and...AC/DC maybe. I forget, but I do recall the CH. Maybe also Jane
Siberry's first album. It was a spring skiing day, warm, slushy, fast, perfect,
perfect. I don't often ski with walkman but that was one good one. A little
bota-bag of white wine with some bread'n'cheese is a very smart idea, too. Laguiole
knife, to make things really right.

Probably showing my age, but here's a couple recurrent themes:
Carry On - Crosby Stills Nash & Young
Low Rider - War

"Run Like Hell" by Pink Floyd from The Wall. I get this in my noggin all the
time on the trails.

Oh, you were asking BOTH about songs that run thru your head AND music we listen to.

I think that songs don't go thru my head unless I'm going real hard then it's BACK IN
BLACK.
