Default here comes the pineapple express ugh

The West Coast of NA has been deluged lately with rain......eating up all
the snow...at least here in the Sierra. I see that the mild Pacific air is
moving across the US now......... I am wondering where the snow will hold
up best over the next week and into the New Year.....in North America. I'd
like to plan a snow secure vacation in early Jan.

Here in the Eastern Sierra at Mammoth Lakes we have plenty of snow. It
has been raining and is raining as I type. Despite the rain, skiing at
Tamarack Cross Country Ski Center is fine. The snow is wet, but there
are no obstacles and no rocks. Once the skies clear and the
temperatures drop, grooming will till up fresh snow and the moisture
will be sucked out by evaporative cooling resulting in great skiing.

Ski Exuberantly,

I can pretty much guarantee that the 100" on the ground in the Keewenaw
will last awhile. Check out the UP of Michigan, great snow and an
interesting American subculture.

Hell, if you want jumping resort towns, fly into Duluth and then head
over to Ironwood, MI (western UP). ABR reports almost 7' of snow this
winter and has been skiing for 6 weeks. We'll be up there
carousing the first full weekend in January. g

One idea to consider is an Adirondacks trip, renting a car out of
Albany. There are three main ski areas to hit, each about an hour and a
quarter apart, with an expressway to get back to Albany (and possibly
some options a little south of Albany, down Gary Jacobson's way, at
Fahrenstock). In terms of the Adirondacks, look at (the notorious)
Lapland Lake, the very nice Garnet Hill, and Lake Placid and the
good skiing at the Verizon (Olympic) Center, Mt. Van Hovenberg. That's
three very different looks at the Adirondacks and typically a lot of
good skiing in January. They all have mid-winter conditions currently.

Yeah. I skied at Fahnstock recently, and it was quite good considering
they don't have much snow left. But it's only a few K of so it's not
worth that sort of trip at the moment. Van Hoverberg is reported to
be superbe right now and Garnet Hill will be too. Very very nice
places to ski.

Mark,

You dog. Each year you are able to plan a ski trip with virtually no
restrictions on place. Damn.

Jay (maybe I'll win the lottery) Wenner

Guess I better buy a ticket.
