Broke a titanal II binding toe piece - kaint figger it out
Big air off a cornice, face plant type of fall, broken toe piece.
Visually the toe piece is intact, it just wiggles freely side to side. Took it apart as far as I could and compared it to the good one, cannot figure it out. The release adjustment screw doesn't seem tighten the din setting gauge at all. If I tighten it down all the way (reverse threads) the binding becomes non-release. But any loosening at all and the thing just flops around and the din guage is at 0. That screw doesn't come all the way out as far as I can tell and I can't quite figure out how to get it apart to look inside. Its almost like a spring inside the toe piece assembly got stretch out of tension? Any experience with this failure mode? Cheers DMT |

Thanks John. Nope, its not the toe piece screw (the big screw on top). Its
the din screw that goes in the front of the little black widget on the front of the binding that's whacked. That toe piece screw you're talking about doesn't affect the din guage setting afaik. About the only thing I know about these bindings, and this is 'cause both my gf and daughter ski them regularly, is that you need to tighten that thing periodically. Our procedure is to take a piece of notebook paper and put in under the boot toe where the afd meets the boot sole, then tighten until this piece of paper has be pulled out under sufficient friction to require a moderate force. I don't know about the release adjustment, but I can say with no doubt that that binding acts really funny if the toepiece isn't attached with the proper amount of force. good luck, john ps One other thing I've learned about the toepiece: Take a spare with you anytime you're in the bc... |
