Ski pioneer Warren WItherall passes

Warren Witherell's history in the Northeast Kingdom is tied to the early history of the Burke Mountain Ski Area back in the late 1960s. According to Dwyer, one of the earliest acquaintances Witherell made in Vermont was the late B.J. Murphy, a well-known St. Johnsbury businessman and one of the driving forces behind the development of Burke Mountain.

Murphy and Witherell met in skiing circles and Murphy invited Witherell to come to Burke for a visit. Witherell took him up on his invitation and, after skiing at Burke Mountain and seeing the area, he became responsible for athletic training for area athletes and was headquartered in a building on Burke Mountain close to the present BMA campus.
