Default October, November skiing in Austria

Hi,

I am planning to go to Austria for one week skiing. I was told Hintertux
would be the best choice with good snow conditions guaranteed. Since this
summer was rather warm an according to the snow reports there are only 40 cm
snow at the glacier I have some questions to those who know this place well.
1. is the weather (usually) good at the time ? My concern is fog and
strong wind.
2. if there is no snow do they snow artificially ?
3. do you know better choice in this period ?

The Otztal and Pitztal would be my vhoice, although I'm not sure when
you actually mean. Obergurgl opened Nov 16 last year and was excellent
as was Pitztal at the same time.

I was in soelden (at the glacier) last year in week 42.

It was great and sunny and we even got 15 cm snow (people went craaaaazy).

No fog, no strong winds, just sun. However after 2 o'clock the snow got soft
on lower parts.

This year , in week 43, you will meet all the stars training, and have the
opportunity to have a go at the race track, as the Worldcup opens (25 oct.).

I was there in week 42 in 2002 as well, just great.

I have no idea how current conditions are.

I can't claim to have skied all the glaciers in Austria, but of the ones I
skied, Hintertux had the most pitch to its terrain, so the skiing could be
upper intermediate. Most of the others I skied were quite flat and would rank
as lower intermediate to beginner slopes.

I skied there in early October one year after a very warm summer and the snow
was fine. You couldn't ski off-piste because of the crevasses, but as I said
the on-piste skiing at Hintertux is the best you'll find on a glacier in
Austria.
