Default Poached SugarBowl opening day

Friday evening

Greetings.

Parked by ASI, skinned up Mt. Judah, down to Roller Pass and up Mt. Lincoln
then locked down and skied the groomers to Judah Lodge.

My preferred route down is the north side of Judah and on down past Donner
Peak, still heading North down that gully and coming out near the snowsheds,
but there was way too much exposed granite (and, no doubt, unexposed moats).

When I left at 3:30 this afternoon it was 24* with graupel falling. Lots of
hard, glazed windslab to contend with on the climb, wish I had brought ski
crampons.

Castle Peak has far fewer exposed rocks and is the best bet right now.

Best,

Bill Maas (Nevada City, CA)
