Thanks for the Responses!
Thanks so much for all the responses. I mean this in the nicest, most
positive possible way: I'm not sure you've helped me much. I've only been to SLC once, and skied exactly Walt's suggestion of Alta, Snowbasin and Solitude. Fantastic experience. A local told me to ski Solitude on weekends, and it was absolutely excellent advice. Alta is, well, Alta, so that's where I planned to head first. Snowbasin was OK, but was my least favorite of the three. I was planning to give Park City Mountain weekday try, but feared the crowds even more than prices. "Hmmm," I thought, "I wonder if the crowds stand around in fashionable clothes and clog up Park City but not necessarily the slopes? I think I'll ask a newsgroup." I do really appreciate the feedback. One more question: Is Snowbird as difficult as some say? I'm an intermediate skiier, and was warned away. |

No more difficult than Alta or Solitude if you search out the tough stuff. They do allow snowboards though so the snow is not as good as where they don't. |

Snowbird has fewer easy cruisers than the other SLC resorts. *If your tastes tend towards that terrain then Snowbird wouldn't be the first choice, *but I wouldn't go so far as to warn you away - there's still plenty of intermediate terrain. One thing about Snowbird is that while both Snowbird and Alta have some quite steep terrain, *with Alta you have to go looking for it, at Snowbird you can easily take a wrong turn off a green cat track and be in way over your head. //Walt Yeah I definitely agree with Walt. I've been skiing at Snowbird for 15 years and discover new and surprisingly steep stuff still. Alta is the intermediates' dream because you can very deliberately and carefully pick and choose what terrain you want. Even Snowbird's blues can turn into nasty little things given the right snow conditions...Like 4-6 days after a good dump. |
