Default BANFF in JAN?

Has anyone been to Banff during the month of Jan?

How are the conditions usually? I heard a rumor that if its - 15 C, that
there will be more ice on the slopes. Is this true or is the guy who told me
this a kook?

How cold should I expect it to be?

Thanks

I went there during the summer (there was still snow in late June) and
I remember them saying that January is the coldest month, with early
January being around like -15C during the day and -30C at night. Late
January is around -6C during the day and -12C at night. I'm told that
the rather cold temperatures lead to nice dry powder as there is less
of a the melt/freeze cycle going on during the day/night.

That's just what I heard though, sorry I can't help you with more
first-person experience.

It could be very cold in January, or it could be relatively warm. Icy
conditions there would be likely if they hadn't had much snow lately.
Colder weather usually means less snow, so maybe there's your
correlation. Sunshine is usually much better than Louise for icy
conditions as they get more snow.

According to Environment Canada, the average daily max temperature for
Banff is -5 C in January, and the average min is -14. So on average in
January it's fine. But you can definitely see some -30 days on occasion.
