Salomona Scream 8 + 812 binding won't fit performa 7 size 28.5

Hello,
One of the skitech here in REI told me that the Salomon binding 812 on
the 160 scream 8 will not fit my boot. My boot is a brand new
Salomon Performa 7 and the size is 28.5. I just bought the skis used
and would like to adjust the binding to my boot size. Is the skitech
telling the truth ? Thanks for your input.

You can't tell this small fact from the Salomon website, but it
appears that the 812 binding isn't offered this year. Knowing that
Salomon revamps its line about as often as snakes change their skins,
it's definitely possible that they've created a number of incompatible
ski / binding combinations, and yours is one of them.

I'd say -- ask another tech. Better yet, take the boots to your
favorite non-big box ski tuner and ask THEM to put the boots on the
skis. REI has good prices and good sales service most of the time,
but they're in business to SELL stuff, not maintain it.
