TR - Lake Tahoe 2012
I am in the middle of a week where I need to be in Northern California
two straight weekends, so what better to do than go skiing? Today was Northstar. I haven't been there for at least 20 years (maybe 30?) so a lot has changed. Most of the lifts are HS quads or sixes, and those that aren't were not running today (except the silly gondola that everyone has to ride to get away from the village). They have opened a whole new subarea (Lookout) - one long HSQ and several nice trails. I got there early enough to get nice parking, just up a long stairway from the Village center, after I realized my original parking spot was in the employee parking area and I moved up closer. Day ticket was $86 with senior discount. I walked right over to the gondola and started up the hill about 8:35 AM. The weather today was mostly bright sun, with light winds up on the ridges. I used the thrift store Atomics today. All the lifts were running by then. The surface was frozen yesterday's slush, except up high on the ridges where the surface started out groomed soft perfection. As the day warmed, the whole mountain got nice, and the steep runs on Backside and Lookout were uncrowded and bombable - I zoomed down the hill faster than I have since high school days on the Cannon Mt. ice. Around noon the slushies started to appear, first around the upper base and then working upward. My legs were getting tired dealing with the slick-stop dance, so I limited myself to the upper trails for a couple of hours before bailing out about 3:00 PM. I estimate about 39,000 feet vertical today using approximate elevations from google maps terrain mode. That stairway back to the car was leg-cramp torture at the end of the day. |

My face is burning so much it hurts to open my eyes, my legs cramped up just getting out of bed, and there are reports of chain controls in the mountains, so I am declaring a sick day from this ski trip. |

That's too bad. But necessary everynow and then. I'm declaring a no golf day today after 4 in a row. |

Today I took the day off and it was the best of all of them! Grrrrr... According to NASCAR it is just a game. The campaign introduces a new brand tagline, “Everything Else is Just a Game.” The creative focus is on the overpowering nature of the NASCAR live experience. “A multitude of fans bound together by a ribbon of asphalt, celebrating as one the triumph of speed and the escape from everything routine,” speaks to the unifying and social aspects of event attendance. And the work takes viewers to the “eye of the sheet metal storm” and “V8 vortex of blistering speed,” evoking the sensory overload that only NASCAR delivers. http://adclubstlouis.org/news/698/na...n-jump-company |
