Anyone know the conditions at Timberline on Mt. Hood?

Less than half the usual base depth for this time of year. I have been
riding at Mt Hood Meadows for the past few weeks, but my guess would be that
the groomed runs @ Timberline are probably fine, you might hit rocks if you
venture elsewhere... unless you go on a day when Palmer is open... Palmer
should be well covered by now.

Mt Hood had a terrible week for weather. It was 66 (a record) in Portland
earlier this week and it rained 3"+ on the mountain. Coverage, which was
already bad, appears to have gotten much worse and Meadows has been closed
since Wednesday. The Timberline web came looks like a shot of the mountain
in June/July. Snow is in the forecast for early next week and we need it
bad.

The upper mountain looks like late June, but the lower mountain looks more
like November - snow, but not enough to ride anything but a rock board.

I think this is the worst season on Mt Hood since '81.

Meadows and Ski Bowl are both closed until more snow comes.

Needless to say I am about as unhappy as I could be right now.

Just think about my situation - FOUR season passes for me and family and
two new unridden boards, one day on new Suzukas...

I think you and I are in the same boat... my family's combined stats:

-four passes for family (TLine weekday + Meadows unlimited for each of me
and my wife)
-four unridden boards (we each have an unrideen alpine + an unridden powder
board)
-one more board that has been ridden but half a day @ the Sun Peaks camp in
December

We live 35 miles from the mountain, and so far have each logged less than a
dozen runs on boards other than our rock boards at Mt Hood. If we didn't do
that carve camp in Sun Peaks we'd have both gone completely ballistic by
now.

Mind you, the primary reason we live where we do is that Mt Hood generally
has the longest and one of the most reliable seasons in the USA. This is
the 1st time since '81 (or so I hear) that a bad year at Mt Hood hasn't been
been better than much of North America sees in a good year.

I guess we had it coming.

The TLine weekday passes are actually lifesavers, 'cause at least we get to
ride on the summer terrain on days when they can open it (i.e., decent
visibility, low to moderate wind, and surface is groomable - not as often as
you might think this time of year)

The good news is, the same weather patterns that produce the worst of
early-to-mid seasons in the Pac NW frequently give us a rather large amount
of snowfall in March and April. Two years ago, Mt Hood Skil Bowl was
closed due to lack of snow for 7 weeks in Jan-Feb and then had a very good
March.

I'm crossing my fingers that it happens again this year, because I wouldn't
want to have to cancel MHES! (www.mhes.net)

Things aren't a lot better up here in VT. Very little
natural (Sugarbush saying 75" so far and we all know they
exaggerate!), crushing 50 and 60 degree weather last week
and odd warm/cold cylcles before that. Even with the
small 1-2" nightly stuff early this week there were a few
runs today where they should have posted the signs for
thin cover, or at least 'warning: gravel may show!'

I've never been so excited about the prospect of 4-8" of
snow as I am tonight!

My wife's new Incline arrived today so that makes 3 unridden boards.
The MHES is my only real hope of riding my Madd this year. The 4wd
started the season as a perfect board but had been reduced to
'rockboard' status. The edges look like a ginsu used to carve concrete.

We had so much fun on Friday at MHES last year, I'd be hugely
disappointed if ElNino smacked us down this year.

I still have high hopes for a good MHES. It's a long time between now and
May. I hope we both get to ride our Madds before then though!

I just had to get on my new custom 4WD last week a Crystal. Big
mistake. They had a 28" base, I stayed on the main runs, but still
ended up with a couple nice gash's in the base. Oh well. Bachelor
is the only place I've been this year that didn't suck. Arggg!
