Untrendy ski trip in Lillehammer?
I found this article from a Bergen newspaper (Feb 7 2004) by Svein Kvalheim: "http://bt.no/utskrift.jhtml?articleID=231324" En utrendy skitur i OL-land - "An un-trendy ski tour in Olympic-land" Is skiing near Lillehammer considered to be "un-trendy"? Maybe I'm missing something here. Any Norwegian natives explain? Or maybe it's because I like "un-trendy" activities. If XC-sking ever became trendy in North America, I might give it up! (there's NO danger of that happening!) The article is a trip of nostalgia on the 10th anniversary of the 1994 Winter Olympics. But the author's thoughts go further back, to 1984 and boyhood family trips to Lillehammer when it was just a small quiet town, with no idea that the eyes of the world would be on it 10 years later. In 2004 he is climbing Nevelfjell, which is nearly 1000 m above the lake level in Lillehammer. On the trail he meets another skier, Michael Smith from Staffordshire, England. Michael is perhaps a rather untypical tourist, who calls slalom skiing "cocktail skiing". His reason for returning to Lillehammer are boyhood memories of a world Boy Scout Jamboree in 1976. Maybe a ski tour to the top of Nevelfjell in un-trendy but I liked it. It's the obvious "peak to bag" in the Lillehammer area. Unfortunately the day I got to the peak, visibility was down to about 5 km. On a clear day they say you can see over 100 km. -- David Dermott , Wolfville Ridge, Nova Scotia, Canada email: WWW pages: http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/dermott/ |

Thanks for the article....I was able to understand the suggestions for
Lillehammer and outlying areas.....due to my knowledge of Danish. Mark "David Dermott" wrote in message ...
