Since there ain't much happ ning here, I'll blab a little.

Rollerskied today with the group. We used to have 20-40 people show up
for rollerskiing and the problem was too many people all over the
road. Now it's pretty good to have 15-20 people just as the season is
going to start.

The route has changed over the years. We used to start on the north
side of I-94, but the church traffic on a frontage road started being
a problem near the end of our workout. Honking horns, buzzing the
skiers, etc. If we didn't quit that route, we'd probably have a hit
and run. Pete forgot his skis, so I let him use a spare set of classic
skis. Nothing like driving 20 miles and forgetting essential gear.
(Yeah, who hasn't done that.)

Trollhaugen (hampster hollow) opened this weekend, but it's actually
easier to get a good workout on rollerskis than skiing up and down a
fairly steep downhill, so the turnout for the rollerski was pretty
good. Temp? Over 60 F anyway.

Hi Jay,

I enjoyed the company of the Frontrunner Sunday for 4 hrs / 40-ish
miles. Heavy mist, grey day. It was pretty fun with company. It was a
group ski with about a dozen. We used to have more skiers too. More
like 20 anyway. Our gang is beginning to age out and there is a
distinct lack of the same numbers of young 'uns to replace them. Our
younger skiers are 40 like me, we only have one younger than me. Sad.
Seasonal Forecast calls for warmer but wetter. Could be grim. Depends
on the upper level jet stream and what it brings. A few hundred miles
north is better.

Jay - you may not have meant that to be funny, and i'm sure it wasn't
when it happened, but I did get a perverse chuckle when i read it (not
from you guys being in danger, but that church traffic = danger) :

"church traffic on a frontage road started being

Todd - it may seem like there isn't many people under 40 skiing, but I
think thats because there really aren't that many people in their 30s
in the US right now. If you are ever worried about the future of us
skiing you should check out the size of summer groups in the cities -
100+ kids on roller-skis just at french park, they drive the neighbors
nuts.

Did the "urban birkie" roller-ski route on saturday - start downtown,
hit every hill until you get to 100.
The group is growing and the route changes slightly every time to hit
more hills and avoid getting hit. Then on sunday, rode up to
trollhaugen. Perfect day for a ride, but not a good sign for snow.

I've been convinced that this was going to a massive snow year, but
I'm starting to have my doubts...

I thinkTorbjorn once wrote about nearly getting hit by a car that
later turned into a church parking lot. Maybe it was a cycling group,
I forget...but yes, I was throwing out how ironic it is for the church
people to drive like they're ****ed off. Maybe they feel they've
wasted an hour in church.

I've been very pessimistic about this coming winter, but recently,
I've changed my tune. Yeah, it's been warm, but it feels like it could
snow enough to ski in Nov or Dec. I don't seem to remember that in the
last 7-8 years. Also, I had a good workout last night and a good
workout on Sunday. Good means that I feel normal rather than old, slow
and in the way.

To paraphrase Tegeder, all at the Sunday workout were on Marwe's
except the couple walking their mastif. (sp?)
