Default snow in Minnesota

Northeastern Minnesota was recently blessed with some great snowfalls,
opening up the xc skiing in time for the holidays.

8" fell last Tuesday and another 12-14" fell Saturday night. 200km of trails
along the northshore of Lake Superior are being groomed as we speak. Best
bets are the Sugarbush Trails near Tofte, Pincushion trails near Grand
Marais, Solbakken trails near Lutsen, Cascade and Deeryard trails near
Lutsen.

Now if you could just move some of that down here to the Twin Cities!

There was a 2 inch deep, 4 foot long snow drift in the parking structure this
morning from the flurries we had overnight.
I thought that was pretty good .... so I walked through it on my way home.

2 inches makes a drift now? Boy you must be suffering serious
withdrawal symptoms. But I like your style!

Couple inches yesterday here. More falling this morning. Best part
was hearing my 3-year-old daughter cheering "Yay! Daddy, it's snowing!
Now we'll have more snow to ski on!" Must have brought her up right
or something. :-)

Recently I've thought about firing up the lawnmower and picking up the
leaves in the yard just as a little joke to myself. I bet the neighbors
would think I'm crazy.

Well, most know I'm crazy...but....I saw golfers on Phalen this
weekend. Does that qualify as crazy since the grass is still green.

I'm kind of wondering how long xc skiing in MN can take the lack of
snow year-to-year. It's starting to seem like Trollhaugen (and Elm
Creek after the colder weather this week) are the sites for High School
races (one each day of this week).

The current ski season is about 4-6 weeks long, and part of that is
rock skiing. The odd thing is that the HS skiers seem to be as excited
and plentiful as ever. It's kind of like they never knew that we had
snow for 3 months during the winter in the good old 80s. Getting bussed
out to a ski area makes xc kind of like downhill skiing.
