Default San Diego to Mammoth flights

http://poway.patch.com/articles/skyw...unty-residents

"San Diego County residents will soon be able to take a nonstop flight
to Mammoth Mountain, the ski resort announced Tuesday.

The flights, on 66-seat regional jets operated by SkyWest Airlines
from Lindbergh Field, will begin Dec. 15 and run through the winter
season,"

Maybe - I tried to make a reservation to see what it would cost and
the airline website does not recognize Mammoth as one of their
destinations.

Further research -

The reservations are through United Express. $198 round trip (plus
unspecified taxes and fees). Flights to Mammoth leave at 7:40 AM, and
return flights leave at 3:41 PM, and take about 90 minutes.

At $100 each way, the cost is approximately the 140% of gas cost
driving there (estimating 20 gallons in my pickup, and $3.50/gallon).

Which gas costs can be cut by adding passengers, while air fare is
additive. Subtracting the hassle of getting to/from the airport, TIS,
boarding, etc, I bet you only save 3-4 hours tops.

3:41 return means airport 3pm minimum 3:30 better which means leaving
the slopes an hour or three earlier.

All added up, the flying rich deserve their fate.

Flaky - that sounds familiar.

I took the Alaska Airlines/Horizon air link from LA to Mammoth this
spring. Never again. First, Horizon had a computer meltdown due to a
blown transformer (how in this day of redundancy could *a* blown
transformer take down an entire business?), delaying by one day.
Then, the flight I was rescheduled on was almost canceled due to
weather, and the approach to the airport almost made me wish it had
been. Picture the wind as a giant cat's paw that wants to bat your
plane out of the air. The flight back out was almost canceled too,
and was also scary.

Mammoth Mountain itself was very nice, as were the people there.
It's like the largest local's hill in the world. However, for me to
brave the air link on a routine basis, Mammoth would have to have the
following:

1) The vertical and terrain extent of Whistler. Plus Vail. Without
fog.
2) The snow quality and frequency of Alta and Snowbird. In a banner
year.
3) The restaurants of Telluride.
4) The coolness and ambiance that Aspen *used* to have (in
particular, the Ute City Bar, which is a ****ing *Burberry's* now!).
5) The scenic vistas of Lake Louise, Heavenly, etc.
6) The lissom, jump-suited female parking attendants of Deer Valley.

1-5 get you reasonably close. If you throw in 6) I think that would
*about* cover it.

Holy ****. IMHO, Mammoth is the rudest hill I have ever skied, filled
with snowboarders and arrogant So Cal dumb****s.
No wonder you like it.

It's like the largest local's hill in the world.

Try Jackson. Make sure you don't run into Jeff.

Relax. I will never ski Mammoth again One thing for su Mammoth
has more vertical and more terrain than anything in near your Midwest
hideaway.

2) *The snow quality and frequency of Alta and Snowbird. * In a banner
year.

Every year is a banner year in Utah. You can also avoid me there, I
always let you freaks know and set meets. You can schedule your trips
around me.

3) *The restaurants of Telluride.

Holy ****, Off Piste Dave. Here you go again, acting like a world
traveler who is knowledgeable about skiing and ski town culture.
Of course, in reality, you're a poseur gumby who gets tourist boned
everywhere you go.

4) *The coolness and ambiance that Aspen *used* to have (in
particular, the Ute City Bar, which is a ****ing *Burberry's* now!).

You wouldn't have the slightest idea of what consitutes coolness,
Poseur Dave.

5) *The scenic vistas of Lake Louise, Heavenly, etc.

Imagine how terrifying those views would be if I blocked them.
Darkness at noon, full diapers, etc.
Ooooops, forgot. You never announce your trips in advance, terrified
I might decide to ski there too.

6) *The lissom, jump-suited female parking attendants of Deer Valley.

Holy ****. You ****ing idiot. I've got somewhere around a hundred
days in at DV, and locals work the loop for passes. Usually a bunch
of old guys and old women. Busted making up insider knowledge you
simply do not have, pppppppuuuuuussssssyyyyy.

1-5 get you reasonably close. *If you throw in 6) I think that would
*about* cover it.

I-5 does not get you reasonably close to any major ski area, dumb****.

Did you poop your diapers on the flight?
