suggestion of ski resort near Boulder or enver
Hello All,
I am going on a buisness trip in Boulder on mid-February. I will arrive at Denver, get a car, go to Boulder and then go back to Denver. I plan to take an extra day (probably a saturday) to go to ski somewhere. I can basically go to ski from Boulder or from Denver. I asked around and heard good things about Copper Mountains. I guess I could go sleep there on friday night, ski saturday and then go back to Denver to leave on sunday. That would be my basic plan but I could go elsewhere. If I follow that plan, any insight on where to stay in a clean and cheap place near Copper Moutains would be welcomed. To help you help me, I am a fairly decent skier and coming from the icy east Canada I would love to get some powder. I can manage pretty much evertything and enjoy moguls(not sure how to write that), bowls and skiing in the glades. I will not have my skis and I will rent. |

Forgot to add: various other resorts in Colorado are served by vans running out I-70 from the airport. Again, no car is needed. You can rent skis anywhere. Ask at the airpot kiosk for information on discount lift tickets, sold at the Safeway or King Sooper. Sigh. This brings back wonderful memories. |

On a Friday evening in February, I took the city bus from Stapleton (it's been a while) to downtown Denver and transferred to the bus to Boulder. I stayed at a lousy hostel in Boulder Friday night. Early Saturday morning, I walked to the Boulder bus transit center and boarded a bus to Eldora, along with dozens and dozens of kids. Spent the day on the snow and then reversed the trip that evening. You can beat the convenience, but only if you are in Salt Lake City. At the time, there was only one bus per day, possibly two, running from Boulder to Eldora. SLC has several, and to different destinations. Google: RTD ski-n-RideFrom Boulder, take the ski-n-Ride (Route N) to Eldora from the RTD Boulder Station at 14th and Walnut. From Denver, take Route B to Boulder from the Market ... http://www.rtd-denver.com/SpecialRid...ide/index.html |

... I asked around and heard good things about Copper Mountains. I had a hassle with the Beaver Creek (Vail, Heavenly, Breckenridge and Keystone) ticket office last month. I gravitated towards the idea of Copper as the place where locals go to avoid price(?). But my tix were pre paid at BC. I considered the Snow shoe (aka snow ho) motel near Frisco. But then read such nightmare reviews online that I panic-splurged on a Vail Mountain Resort Properties place. No problems there. Arapahoe Basin had more snow than most all other resorts in the area at that point in the season. I think that would be less of a commute than BC. I noticed a problem between living like a king and slumming it. http://vaildaily.com might be a place to find a comfortable medium. Crank those boards Colorado... |

There's loads of snow right now anywhere in Summit County, Keystone, A- Basin, Breck, or Copper. There might be a less expensive place to stay on I-70 in Idaho Springs Friday night, and that would also put you halfway to anywhere in Summit County vs staying in Denver, and also would be probably half the cost of overnighting in Summit County. Be prepared for very slow traffic going back toward Denver on Saturday night, it moves slowly but ok unless there are road closures due to avalanches or really bad accidents. I have also stayed at either of the Motel 6's on I-70 at Kipling on the west side of Denver, around $45 per night. Typical Motel 6, not great, but passable. |
