Telling time on the slopes
Neil Gendzwill wrote: I just wear a watch under my glove. Plenty of time on the lift to peel back the gauntlet and look at the time. I would do this if I didn't wear the wrist protectors. They've come in handy (so to speak) on more than one occasion, so I can't give them up. Guess I'll stick with the pocket watch approach. Joe Ramirez |

What is this "sun" thing of which you speak? Ah, yes, that great orange hazy globe seen for a few moments, once in a while, during daylight hours. I just don't understand how people could possibly tell time with that thing up there. |

Maybe your kid (the one that is more interested in playing basketball than skiing) should be the one wearing a watch. He doesn't even wear a watch in daily life! None of his friends does either. It's a generation of kids who get their time from computers or by being told the time by someone else. Joe Ramirez |

I have seen the watch as a zipper pull in prices from 5$ up I bought a small and cheap water-resistant "sports" watch from Target for about $7 years ago. For skiing, I tie it to the zipper pull on my chest pocket. It's easily viewable without having to unzip anything. I also wear it for bike rides at home. I've had it almost a decade and it's still on its original battery. |

Department of trivialities: Those of you who like to keep track of the time when you're on the slopes -- how do you do it? I can't wear a wris****ch because I wear long gloves with wrist protectors underneath.... Some watchbands have a built in extension that allows you to wear your watch outside your clothing (or wetsuit diving). My Omega has such a band. What is this "sun" thing of which you speak? Yesterday, not only was there no sun here, but with the snow gun blowing away at the top of the lift hill, there wasn't even any *sky*. When the lifts stop it's time to go to the bar. When the slopes get busy again after the lull in the middle of the day, it's time to get some lunch. What other times do you need? -- Chris *:-) |
