But if it's a toss up or I can get it elsewhere I'll do it. Something about the people there. Employees and shoppers. al gore groupies and just ****ing morons it seems. A little too cool for their own good. They also support groups that are against Lake Powell. A total contradiction to common sense. Maybe if they would support enforcing our borders and fight senseless spawning we could get by without it, but not until. |

I have a buddy from my undergrad years working at the Salt Lake REI. Shame... he's turned into a major tool. |

For spawning, bike seats and marijuana are excellent way to keep sperm count down or badly swimming sperm. So sensitive hippies with excellent aerobic capacity are doing their part for zero population growth. LoL. |

I enjoyed the shop in Seattle, it was like a fun park for outdoor stuff geeks. But waaaaay too pricey. It's for people who are happy paying full retail for stuff you can get much cheaper if you have the time to shop around and wait, stalking the bargain. We have a few shop-chains like that in Aus (but without the flashy flagship shops with rivers and stuff), and the prices are just silly. The top goretex shells are over a thousand bucks (aus dollar is worth 10 cents less than the US one). I got a brilliant goretex shell in the US some years back for 75 bucks, it was Sportif brand, and I've been in monsoonal rains in this and never got wet (love the pit vents that you can velcro back to keep them open, but also overlap velco close). You have to lift an eyebrow at super expensive shops whose brand has become a lifestyle image. I did score a spiffy US olympic team hat from them though for $14 (from the SLC shop) season before last. -- ant Don't try to reply to my email addy: I'm borrowing that of the latest scammer/spammer |

Eradication of the Glenn Canyon Dam is always going to be Greenies' dream. I mean it is one of the main subjects in the "Monkey Wrench Gang", the Sierra Club has fought against it before it was built and constantly demand its eradication. I believe in irrigation, but I also think some of the farmers, mainly on the Columbia and the San Joaquin Valley are huge water hogs... Irrigation is a small part of it. I'm thinking of all the toilet flushes, showers, lawns, dishes. Not to mention the power generation !!!! Southern California would decend into civil war if it didn't have GCD's water and power. What is left of the white population there wouldn't be too happy when forced to sacrifice and live in the 17th century to make sure that there was enough power and water for the "minorities". |

And there is plenty of other water available to Southern California. It is even becoming economically viable to remove the salt from it, by such techniques as using waste heat from sea-sside electrical generation plants. And then there is reclaimed waste water. A large portion of the San Diego sewage flow, for example, is cleaned up and distributed in separate mains (purple pipes) for irrigation and the like. There have been proposals to clean the water a little further and cycle it thorugh the local reservoirs. A few locals always express disgusta t thei, and then go home and brush their teeth in water a significant portion of which is derived from the Colorado River. |

Don't know very much about western states power distribution, do you? Glen Canyon Dam generated power isn't contracted to California. It only goes to Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming. -Astro And if those places didn't get their power from GCD would it be drawn from the places that DO send it to LA? I'm thinking Hoover Dam sends power to Southern Cal. from the power lines going out of there. I've heard it said that Lake Mead would be empty were it not for the storage in Lake Powell that has made that whole system possible to manage. My point still stands. I did expect some tight ass to respond to that. Just not from you :-o |

And Powell and Mead make it possible to maintain that narrow margin possible. Now that those mussels have found their way into the system I wonder what problems that will create for water supply to Calif.? |

Well, then Southern California should use that "other" water because right now, they are stealing a large portion of the water they are using from the Colorado.. http://192.234.213.2/1997/101697_col...ado_river.html When the upriver states start using their share, CA is gonna have to get over their reluctance to build a pipeline from the north to the south. Or go dry. *If* the NoCalians let them. -klaus |
