"Jan Gerrit Klok" wrote in message ... "Terje Mathisen" schreef in bericht ... Absolutely no way! My father was part of a firm importing electric cars to Norway, the size/weight/cost of batteries are still the (only) limiting factor even for roling along on perfectly paved roads. Average speed is _very_ comparable, and the rolling friction of a studded belt vs. well-inflated rubber tires is at least 2 to 10 times worse. :-( Hmm, that's too bad! For the perfectly groomed trails those ski's seem to use for all the Vasaloppet, is that studded belt even required? I can see how it's the uptimum in grip and tracking, of course. I already figured maybe a battery or vehicle change would be required once or twice over the course to keep batterry weight down. Oh well, it would just be nice to have a prefectly silent machine to do the (otherwise outstanding) camera work. Anyone have a golf cart to tinker with? How about using sled dogs or reindeers? |

How about using sled dogs or reindeers? Thank you, I didn't want to bring up a bicyclist. Love the dog idea. If they're not too excited, they should be nice and quiet. Do dogs run 90km at Vasaloppet pace without too much trouble? Guess they do. Better doggie poop on the trail than exhaust dirt. |

I skied one of the longer loops at our mountain cabin today, supposedly 26.3 km long according to the trail maps, my GPS agreed giving a track length of 26.15 km. At about 5 different places on this loop, the central skating lane was marred by long splashes, looking like someone had thrown a cup of cocoa out of a snowmobile. I'm afraid however that this was the result of someone skijoring behind a dog with diarrhea! Ouch. :-( Terje BTW: I used almost exactly 2 hours skiing (classic, including stops) this relatively hilly trail, which means that I need a lot more ski specific training before I'd have any chance on the Birkebeiner pin. :-( -- - "almost all programming can be viewed as an exercise in caching" |

You had the option of going around instead of being pulled right in. Scott |
