Lighten up, this is America land of Football, Baseball, Basketball, and up
close and personal. We have an innate, possibly genetic, need to know the sugary sweet sanitized details of an athlete's personal life rather than watch him or her perform. I have not done a complete study of actual race footage vs. chat and other non sport time on the SLC coverage. The coverage included much of the biathlon events, guns being the key component here. We here get what we can in terms of coverage. OLN dropped XC coverage after a few years. I attribute this to the cost vs. viewers who actually watched. There is an economic component to these decisions. The powers that be, even though it may sometimes seem so, do not have a personal grudge against thin, fit participants of an obscure sport here in the US. So my suggestion is to take what you get and learn to love the ramblings of Al and the boys and remember to only use the bathroom during commercials. The FrontRunner wrote in message oups.com... Which races do you have on tape and how many raw minutes of race coverage do you have for, say, the top 3 of them? The FrontRunner wrote in message oups.com... FrontRunner wrote: Al Trautwig, we must complain if only to keep certain traditions alive. Hopefully the coverage matches the Salt Lake coverage, which was excellent. Was there actually some coverage of Salt Lake nordic skiing and/or biathlon? Really?! I feel guilty. I must have gone to the bathroom to take a leek when this "coverage" took place. I should learn to pee in less than 10 seconds during the Olympics or I will agian miss ALL the NBC coverage of nordic events... |

Actually, there was at least an hour of XC almost every afternoon on
MSNBC. I honestly don't remember that much of the detail, but I know I was racing home from work to plop in front of the TV for the duration. FrontRunner,
I know, lighten up. I do understand how we got to where are and why. It is just a bit heart breaking to see the diversity of sport and the fierceness of the competition buried beneath a mountain of marketing and handling. I really would love to enjoy watching the games but it is hard. By the way, Gene, that 50K race through the deep snow sounds like something to have seen. I cannot know what motivated those racers but I bet there was no dream of riches or endorsement. That was in the day of the amateur games (eastern bloc not withstanding). Thanks, /john skewes |
