Going to Whistler second week in April (kids had time off school and I
couldn't resist $300 tix non-stop NY to Vancouver). I've never been

there.
Heard its great but only from people who have been skiing much longer than
me (and my kids). Going with family and when we ski together we tend to
most ski on blue groomers (older son and I do some blacks in good

conditions
but mostly we all ski together on the blues). I hate mush (would rather
ski ice). Any way, what can I expect in Whistler that time of year
conditions-wise and trails-wise?

Also, would love recommendations of condos, my taste is for ski-on ski-off
(or very short walk on walk off) but do not need luxury at all. Willing

to
stay in less nice places and spend money on location. (Hopefully the $C
dollar won't strengthen between now and then.)

That is a great flight price from NY to Van. I run a tour operation based
out of Whistler and can probably sort something out for you in regards to
condo's here in Whistler. We deal with pretty much everything so can
probably find something that will suite your needs.

If you want us to help you out please don't hesitate to ask. Our web address
is at the bottom of the email.

Either way have a great time while you are here and let me know if you need
anything.

Nueva Yorquiños are not allowed or not welcome at Whistler. They hog all
the debaucherious activities from the Aussies working there on SWAPs.

On a Serious note: Most of the time Whistler/Blackcomb has plenty of
snow during April. However, beware, it can also well... suck, with
plenty of rain to make the lower runs just hay and mud. High winds
closing the upper lifts, and very crappy snow. Hey it sounds like what
can happened at W/B anytime throughout the year

Rule of Thumb in skiing W/B, IMHO. Stay High, keep away from any long
blue cruisers to the bottom until the last run of the day. The Blue
Cruiser runs may look good on the map, but once you take one down to
Whistler Creekside in late morning and the snow is around the same
consistency as an inner tube hill in Ohio.

You'll learn that staying around Harmony Ridge or Peak Chair at Whistler
or 7th Heaven at Blackcomb is much more enjoyable than taking long
slushy blue cruisers runs. If you really want a long cruiser run, go up
Horstmann Glacier, walk the last part to the backside. and ski down the
backside of Blackcomb, taunt the Telemarkers going down the Blowhole.
(which really isn't that difficult of a run, Tele or non Tele)

Remember that some Blacks at W/B can be quite easy if the snow is nice
and soft, like Couloir Extreme. However, these same runs take on Wonder
Twin lifeforms when they become icy. Always be cautious when one hears
the sound of the scraping of ice below you before you make that first
turn on the run.

If you don't like mush, then Whistler/Blackcomb will drive you crazy. If
the words "Pineapple Express" are in the weather forecast, you may want
jump in your car, get your skins and Avy beacon, and head for the
Icefields to the North.

pretty much any snow condition imagineable. Just periodically check how
the season is going on both mountains.

Well, the best places to stay like the Chateau Whistler Fairmont and Le
Chamois for location, are also very expensive. I feel staying near
Blackcomb is better than around Whistler. But ask around, do some
research. W/B has a pretty good bus system from outlying condos to the
slopes. I won't recommend staying at Creekside. Lot 4 or 5 are great
locations, just no hot showers and bucket seats are kind of
uncomfortable to sleep in.

(Hopefully the $C
dollar won't strengthen between now and then.)

Don't worry, W/B is a tourist town. they will find ways to separate you
from your money, and make you wave your arms in impotent fury, as you
read your Condo, Dinner, Lunch bills. if you want to save money, make
your own lunches. In Matter of Fact, become macrobiotic when you visit
the place, your credit card statement won't read like a Debtor's
Anonymous letter of introduction.

Besides all my criticism of the W/B, it is a great place to ski and
vacation, be patient with the area. It takes time to find all the nooks
and crannies that make the ski area such an awesome place. However it is
not as good as Vail. :-)
