Skiing all winter, for high school credit
Vermont Public Radio had a news story the other day about a skiing
expedition of high school students across the state of Vermont on the Catamount Trail. The skiing is part of a semester-long educational program run by an organization called Kroka Expeditions. After skiing to Canada, the students are to canoe down the Connecticut River back to southern Vermont. The program also includes skills such as constructing some of their gear (tent, canoes, etc.) and instruction about the natural environment and local history. According to the Korka Expeditions Web site, the program qualifies as a "recognized independent school" in Vermont for full academic credit. The VPR story is at: http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/vp...ICLE_ID=618597 The Kroka program is described at: http://www.kroka.com/programs-semester.shtml Lew Lasher Cambridge, Massachusetts and Stowe, Vermont |
