Do not pay to see Warren Miller film
I went last year and it was a ripoff.
The whole friggin thing was a big ad for Jeep and granola bars. Many blatant tacky product ads thoughout the movie. The snowboarders built a ramp over the Jeep so the camera could keep zeroing in on the SUV, often with no other action. Please do not support this sell out company. You have been warned! |

I saw it and thought it was fantastic. The soundtrack was a little loud and abrasive, but the footage was amazing. I especially loved the guy who flew down mountains in a glider suit. The most incredible thing I've ever seen. And the shots of the big Alaskan peaks people were skiing done. You didn't like that? Warren's voice made only a couple of ghostly appearances, not at all like his full narration of old, which felt a little weird, like he was a crazy old uncle they were trying to hide. I can like him, I can not like him, it depends. As for product placements, well, I guess I didn't notice that many, and in any event they didn't bother me. For spectacle, it was the best one yet (though the year before had some great footage too). The older ones had a lot more regular resort skiing, with regular people who were more easy for mortals to identify with. I liked them more in that way, because they got me charged up for skiing, instead of saying "That's something I could never do". But whatever. I'm sure I'll go again this year. Dave |

They have "product placed" the car and eat-um bar (brands vary) for many years now. They always have fun with it and make it obvious, and the snow is still fun. Just wish there was more Warren narration though; like him, old and very active! gr |

It was very loud and loaded with product placements and plugs for free lift tickets from Mt Snow and Killington. The closest display of eastern firm was the Japanese Snowball league that had a machine that produced identical snow balls every other scene was powder and fat ski's. It was a lot of fun to watch but Warren is reusing many of his earlier lines. "Bumps are like heart beats you only get so many of them" You need to get used to sponsors many low volume activities would never take place with out them. I gave up on fighting product placement when ice hockey boards stopped being white. |

Be stupid not to go this year. Like last year. At least in MY
neighborhood. Free lift tickets. Lots of them. I like free....... Warren's a mensch, anyway. Ran into him in the San Juans a couple years ago, had a lovely ski conversation in the middle of summer. Sweet guy. I'm really sad that he doesn't narrate the Seattle shows anymore, it truly was a right of fall. Four or five years ago, some drunk snowboarder (who sounded a lot like this dip****) was giving him **** during his intro. Warren said, "Did your mother know your father?" There was almost a riot.....as people jostled to be the one to 86 the bozo. "tom" wrote in message ups.com... I went last year and it was a ripoff. It seams that Warren is now retired as the opening credits for "Off the
Grid" stated "vintage naration by Warren Miller". Too bad his company doesn't follow in his winning formula, Showing regular people skiing and the fun they have! I miss the lift unloading follies. A shame they stopped doing those
segments before the advent of six-packs. I remember hanging out at the top of the Park City lift right after they installed it as the Texans hit town......would have been wonderful on tape. That and the "regular" skiers trying to ski in the steep-n-deep. Maybe they
should show what the "experts" go through to make those 90' gap hucks. Mike "twobuddha" wrote in message ps.com... I miss the lift unloading follies.
