A-Basin schedule thru most of June
Arapahoe Basin will be open seven days a week until June 5. A-Basin
will re-open Friday through Sunday on June 10, 11, 12 and June 17, 18 and 19. Read Arapahoe Basin's Summer Season press release. "We would like to stay open on the weekends until the fourth of July, but we'll have to see how snow conditions hold up to announce any further plans past June 19," says Alan Henceroth, COO and General Manager for Arapahoe Basin Ski Area. |

Anybody see this article? ("Record Snowpacks Could Threaten Western States") http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/22/us...nowpack&st=cse They're worried about rapid, catastrophic melting and resulting flash floods. The picture is cool; I wonder what kind of plow could cut through snowbanks that high. Yow! Dave |

Dave All of the major reservoirs in California are already near capacity. The Yolo Bypass, which provides protection to Sacramento similar to the way the Atchafalaya protects New Orleans from the Mississippi, has already been running at various levels for about a month, and most of the Sierra snowpack (including the foot that fell last week) is still on the ground. On the Colorado River, Lake Mead was at record lows last summer, but it is filling fast as the Bureau of Reclamation dumps water from Lake Powell upstream apparently to make room for the runoff. |
