European Weekenders
Hi,
Can anyone recommend a decent European resort thats suitable for a long weekend away riding. Looking to take a group of about 10-12 out, riders of all standards, so nothing too hardcore please... Cheers, Ian -- http://www.ctrl-music.com - Music for the mass market? .. |

European resorts are bigger than North American ones, from what I can gather. Places like Les Arcs, Les Deux Alpes, Val Thorens, Tignes etc have got way more runs than you could hope to do in a weekend. |

Soldeu in Andorra would certainly cater for the beginner and intermediates
in the group and probably enough entertainment value for a weekend for the advanced among them. The other plus is its cheap to stay there. Cheers, Jeff "Dog Solitude" wrote in message ... I asume you take the Plane. If you got to Switzerland you got 3 Airports Zurich: East Switzerland, Central Switzerland, Bernerorberland Basel: Central Switzerland, Bernerorberland; for East Switzerland need you 1h more travling time than form Zurich Geneva: Rhone vally (Kt. Vaud + Vallis), Bernerorberland, Fernch Alpes Some links for you: http://www.schneehoehen.de/land/ (in german) Europa http://skicentral.com/resorts.html http://www.boarder.ch/site/_bersicht_schweiz.157.0.html Switzerland http://www.skiinfo.ch/skimaps/index.jsp Resort Maps Switzerland http://www.skifrance.fr/index.cfm?langue=a France Johannes |

I can't think why one resort would be more suitable for a long weekend than another, unless you specifically want somewhere close to an airport to minimise travel time. If that is the case www.worldsnowboardguide.com shows you the typical driving time and nearest airports for most resorts. Another resource which may be of interest is the trip reports section on www.snowserve.co.uk/list_tripreports.cgi if you look at the "home brew" reports many describe weekend trips and may give you some ideas. There are also a couple of tour operators who specialise in weekend trips (from the UK): http://www.snowcoach.co.uk/ http://www.skiweekends.com/ (site seems to be down just now) |

Cheers, Ian I personally think long weekends are the way to go, you can go mid week and fly real cheap. Or you can always drive down (Perhaps not the best option if your the poor unfortunate having the responsibility of getting 10 people in 3/4 cars to the Alps - logistic nightmare!). Most of the French resorts would be ideal for beginners to advanced, such as La Plagne (gets a bad rap for being full of motorways – but if your willing to look there's great off piste), Les Arc (which is now linked to La Plagne !!), but my favorite is Serre Chevalier which is always a good bet – real good terrain if your willing to suffer the poma lifts!!
