Experience with luggage delivery companies?
Only a question about a European resort in that that's where I want it
delivered I suppose - but hopefully this is a reasonable place to ask. Has anyone tried any of the companies that promise to collect your luggage from your home and deliver it to your holiday destination, and vice versa at the end of the holiday? We're going to Val Thorens over Christmas/New Year, and are contemplating doing the journey, with a toddler, in several legs via relatives etc. The idea of being able to travel with only the stuff we actually need on the journey, not the ski stuff, is very tempting! I'm anxious about reliability though - if the main luggage didn't turn up in VT, it could seriously affect the holiday! Has anyone done it? With which company? How did it work out? Would you do it again? If anyone knows a good list of companies, that would also be useful. Googling has found me www.firstluggage.com and www.carrymyluggage.com but I think it was a different company that was mentioned when I first heard about the idea, maybe even one that specialised in ski resort deliveries? Another one is www.flymycase.com Never used them, but they claim to specialise in ski equipment. They sent me a press release, can't spot it on their site, but I transcribed it he http://www.mysnowsports.com/Forums/v...1935.html#1935 Pete |

Why not check out UPS or DHL? Price? No selectable delivery date? I think usual luggage services also store the luggage until the day you want it get delivered. DHL will deliver as soon as they are able to do. Florian |

Sidheag DS Colin Oct 27 2003 Hi Sidheag, Maybe wishful thinking, but I'd think a reliable company would be willing to offer insurance such that you could go shopping for new stuff if they didn't deliver. Alternatively, some travel insurance policies might cover this under a 'lost luggage' section? Often with these though, they only offer you £100 or something. Hardly enough to get those new Scratch BCs you've had your eye on Cheers, Matt |
