Default New lifts at Flumserberg

Noticed this while queuing for the decrepit cable car in Unterterzen on
Saturday. The 2 stage (Unterterzen-Oberterzen-Tannenbodenalp) cable car
will be replaced by an 8 seater gondola in November. This will be a huge
improvement to anybody arriving by train. Not least because of not
having to get out and queue again at Oberterzen.

Also for 2006/2007 (from www.flumserberg.com), they are going to replace
a fast quad chair (and the rickety 2 man next to it) with the first 8
seater chair in Switzerland. This will shift 4000 people/hour up the
mountain! Seems to me like they could do with creating some more pistes
at the same time.

I was up there myself on Saturday. Went to the Prodkamm side in the
afternoon and they definitely needed more capacity there as there was a
constant lengthy queue for the 4-man chair. I would have thought that
replacing the old, slow 2-man with a new 4-man would be cheaper but
maybe long term it makes more sense to have just the one lift.

I can't see how they could put more pistes on that side unless they
level some forest. There's definitely room for expansion to the right
of the Maschgenkamm around the Leist though. That area seems
underdeveloped.

Cheers,

Gavan
