keskinada question
Can anyone tell me offhand if it's possible/reasonable to ski from the Holiday Inn in Gatineau to the Keskinada start? -Mitch |

I'm sure local people will give specific advice, but in brief visits I seen skier-made classic tracks in the snow along the route. THere are several road crossings along the way. Are you thinking of doing it and then participating in the race? I don't think that's reasonable. If it was me, it'd be too long to be a proper warmup and way too far to ski back after the event. YMMV I don't really know how far it is which is why I'm asking. I was thinking of skiing to the race but not back. That would save my wife and kids from having to get up, fed, and out early just to watch Dad wax and test skis. I suppose if it's too far the other option would be to try to hop a ride with someone else. Hmm... I don't suppose there's a hotel shuttle? :-) -Mitch |

I don't suppose there's a hotel shuttle? :-) I would guess it's 10K, but I'm not sure -- it could be more. As sknyski says, there is probably a hotel shuttle -- I stayed at that hotel once and saw signs about it. I suspect you could take a cab there, or even a public bus. 10K might be a good warmup for some people, but it's possible it will be wickedly cold early in the morning and the trip to the start could be brutal. You should find out if there are others at that hotel and bum a ride over.
I'm at the Best Western, just around the corner. If you can't get a ride, let me know. -Scott. "John Forrest Tomlinson" wrote in message ... I'm sure local people will give specific advice, but in brief visits I seen skier-made classic tracks in the snow along the route. I live in Ottawa. That half-qualifies me as a local I guess. I checked mapquest. Looks like Holiday Inn is less than a km from the Southern tip of the Gatineau park. This part of the park is not groomed but it's only about 2 km from the Southern tip to P3 at Gamelin Blvd. I sometimes see people making their own tracks there. There is also a bicycle path to P3. . Another 2.5 km or so. Would I recommend skiing to the race if I were in your boat? I'm not sure. The combination of not wanting to be late and don;t know the way for sure would make me very nervous. Would I take a leisurely ski back to the hotel after the race, especially if it is warm and sunny? I would consider that. Good luck! .... Mike |
