(Note to General Powell: I'm available if you need a hand). That said, if I were starting over from scratch, I'd probably go with Yak, mainly because they're much easier to find around these parts. So if retailers in your area tend to carry one brand more than the other, you might want to go with the more popular one so it's easier to find the various attachments and accessories you'll probably wind up buying in the future. I've heard that the round crossbars Yak uses allow you to lay the ski racks flat when not in use, thus getting a slight improvement in fuel economy, but aside from that, I know of no functional difference. bw |

I agree. If the rack is inside the vehicle, it doesn't really make much difference what brand it is. Or if you have one at all. -- //-Walt // // The Volkl Conspiracy |

It makes it a dream when loading or unloading as the whole rack extends out from the car. Stops you getting crap on your expensive ski wear from rubbing on the cars body work. Go have a look at the Thule website. They are featuring it heavily this winter. -- Regards, Andy W... I Wasn't Born To Ski, I Was Born To Work.... But I Got Made Redundant!!!! Thule does a great job of making a variety of racks that adapt to almost
any car you can imagine. Thier racks are also solid and last a long time. I've never used Yakima, so I can't make a comparison. I have one major complaint about Thule racks - the security sucks. If a theif wants to take your rack and skis, he can do so in a few short minutes and with the rack I now own, he wouldn't even need a tool. They really need to work on their security. This is a recent thing. The older Thule racks I've owned were very secure. Since I don't own a Yakima, I have no idea if this is an issue with Yakima racks, so you're best off if you compare both in the shop. Robert wrote: Hi anyone have an opinion on Thule vs Yakima? |

My Roof Bars, Roof Box, Extender and Bike Rack are the most secure items I have ever seen!! There is no way a thief can get any of my equipment off the rack without a damn good saw to either cut the bars/box/extender or cut the bindings off the ski's!! -- Regards, Andy W... www.amogen.com wrote: What's wrong with the security of Thule Products?? The Thule ski rack I own (purchased last Feb) is attached to the mfr's roof rack by a "fat mouth" clamp (see link below) that is held shut by a thumb screw. There is a small tab that keeps the screw from loosening. Pull the tab out and unscrew it with your fingers. I can remove my rack from the vehicle in a two minutes without any tools. Not good for a rack that cost me over $170 and particularly not good when I have a couple of thousand of dollars worth of skis on the rack. My wife's car has a different Thule rack. It's a few years older older than mine and it's held to the vehicle's roof rack by a "star" nut. One of the nuts is immobilized when the roof rack is locked, but the other isn't, making it easy for someone to unscrew the one side and lift the rack and snap off the flimsy plastic clamp on the other side. http://www.thuleracks.com/thule/prod..._id=13&sku=fm1 |
