I spent a week or so in Portillo, Chile a few years ago and had a
blast. It's a beautiful spot up high near the border of Chile and
Argentina, and the cost was very reasonable. Terrain was great - lots
of steeps and good vertical. We didn't get any real powder but they
are known for getting massive dumps. I believe I went in late July or
early August.

I hear that Las Lenas, Argentina and Valle Nevado, Chile are also very
fun. Some people compare Valle Nevado to Whistler/Blackcomb.

Have fun.

Yes, Valle Nevado is excellent. Great snow when I was there and not
too busy apart from at the weekend (we went late August if I remember
rightly). Only a short drive from Santiago too.

There are a few other small resorts nearby that are pretty decent too,
although the facilities are not as good.
