Default Can You Suggest a Resort in the West???

My family is planning a trip for the week between Christmas and
New Year. We are from Washington and looking for someplace with
snow at that time of year. Is Utah good then? Or Wyoming? Is there
a website that has snowfall records for different areas? Any help
would be great. Thanks

Here's my favorite link for snowfall records, suggestions about what
time is year is best, directions of exposure, and on and on:

I'm not sure what specific place to recommend, as I've never skiied the
West at that time. But be prepared to spend mucho $$$, as you're
looking to book at the most expensive time of year.

Not necessarily - for a party of dedicated skiers, with little interest
in goofing off, a family can get a Motel 6 room in Jackson for about $70
a night for four, eat decently at nearby walk-to restaurants, ride free
shuttles to JH, buy tics cheap, particularly if the kids are small - and
get out alive with some unbelievable (for an easterner) ski memories for
a nominal sum. Takes fortitude and self control, though.

Trick is to take your ski vacation for the skiing, and not get
distracted by superficials...

Frank,

Utah conditions are usually decent by Christmas.

FYI, some sample photos, the last four Decembers.

I think so - buses came by in the am and people popped aboard without
seeming to pay, last time I noticed. [I always have the 4x4, since I
drive out from Tahoe when I visit the Hole.] Did they discontinue the
shuttle? A free shuttle has taken on more importance, now that they
charge you just to park your truck at the base.

Frank,

But then you have to advise him to stay in Sandy, and pop up the CCs,
rather than join the throng and blow a fortune on lessor snow over in
PC. With the savings he could get a car and visit the SLC tourist
attractions - it's like visiting a foreign country with a strange
culture and unusual religious practices. Wait a moment - it IS a foreign
country with a strange culture and unusual religious practices

By Christmas most areas in the west have good snow cover. Trying to
find the best is hard to do. Utah will have snow and crowds. Wyoming
will have less in the way of crowds and the weather may be colder.
Colorado will have crowded areas, Vail and Summit County, and fewer
people at places like Telluride and Crested Butte. Crowded or not,
skiing in Colorado at Christmas will be just fine. I'd suggest just
picking an area and going. Usuallly the best skiing for me is whereever
I'm skiing.
