My commentary....

Crested Butte is much more for “Adventure Junkies” than anything that Taos offers.. Niseko is great for boring blue cruisers, but I tended to go off trail to find any thrill.. (I will desist from commenting on their powder choice, but then again I am bias about Mt. Baker, which is always a 50/50 the best day ever/or the worst day ever skiing) Now I am interested in going to Georgia and Gudaur..

Why wouldn't they pick Snowbird/Alta for powder?

Because Grand Targhee is the place for powder.

I'd rather ski Mad River Glen in the rain than expose myself to Utards.

If there is a slightly sane part of Utah, Summit County is it. The crazy parts are mainly anything in Utah County, (ie Provo, BYU etc) and beyond.

Any good skiing, whether at the resorts or in the backcountry, one is going to run in or drive through some very conservative and backwards areas. The big paranoia is the government is going to take away their guns, and the BLM is mean to them. The important is not to pass judgement, and go with the flow. It can be a pretty tough and hard scrabble life in many of these areas that are not connected to tourism and ski area real estate.

Much like places like Telluride have a pretty hip town center, it is surrounded by ranchers and others in Montrose County..

If one doesn't like Utah, and needs good Powdah skiing.. well..

The article was not the most in depth piece, and more of a fluff piece as a chew toy for ski tourism.

One can't pick xxxx all the time, and there are some places that have as good or better powder dumps than xxxx. Plus xxxx Peruvian Lodge is not much of a nightlife, compared to places like Aspen or Whistler..

However most powder heavens are pretty rustic as well.. I did enjoy the hot tub at Holiday Inn at Rogers Pass, after spending a week or so at the huts around there..
