5 feet in a week (JH)
We've had 60" in the past week. The snowpack isn't particularly
homogenous, running coldwarm a couple of times during the storm cycles. These "upside down" storms have created weak layers that slabs have been slipping on. Some are pretty deep. Things are starting to settle down in the southern Tetons, albeit, almost another foot is forecast for the next 24 hours. Avy control was rough on a few patrolers. Slides stripped gear off skids. Nobody died. So all this **** is good news, eh? -- According to John Perry Barlow, "Jeff Davis is a truly gifted trouble-maker." |

Nobody died. So all this **** is good news, eh? Sounds like our snowpack. I lost track of how much snow has fallen since the 29th. It's pretty much carnage here. Snowboarders and snowmobilers getting lost every day, snowshoers getting buried and killed, and big slides ripping out. I've had electricity on and off since New Years Eve (more off than on), have dug out more cars than I care to remember, was stuck overnight on my road until the blower came in, am now unable to get out because another truck is stuck in the road, plus I was spooked out of the canyon on my ski with the dog on the safest route there is above the house. So I guess I just have to hole up a while and hope the power doesn't go out again. And another 20" coming by noon: http://tinyurl.com/7aqx5 Smells like winter. -klaus |
