For March I would look at Summit County Colorado. There you have
Breckenridge, Copper Mtn, Vail is 30 mins away, all are recognized as among the top riding spots in the world. Plus, you also have A-Basin, which has snow longer, Keystone, Loveland, all should be great in Mar, which is the peak season there. I would probably target early Mar, depending on the weather. |

hey now,
So Telluride sounds like a possibility. Question - is it possible to drive from Targhee/Jackson to Sun Valley? I did it quite a few years ago in the summer time, but never really paid attention about any 'closed in winter' road signs. Was thinking could hit all 3 in a weeks trip. Sucks playing snow roulette but gonna have to book some air soon. |

You should be able to go the less busy route through Arco (first city lit by nuclear power! :-) and across, rather than via the Interstate. Scenic if you enjoy high desert. You shouldn't have too much trouble if you don't get hit by a storm. If it's storming, you might not be able to make it. US20 between Arco and Carey gets some NASTY drifts. On the plus side, driving through Craters of the Moon in winter is an awesome site; nothing but lava covered with drifted snow. Last New Years I tried to drive from Boise to Jackson to finalize wedding plans. My (then)financee(now wife) and I only made it about 100 miles before we turned back. After we got back we found out that the roads were closed in three different places, and one section didn't open for 48 hours. It was a big storm, but they do close roads there, more for drifting than for huge dumps. Just check the weather before you decide to make the trip. Jeremiah |

It's very very unlikely that you'd be unable to take the Interstate to Twin Falls and then head north. And it's very likely that US20 would be just fine, too. Of course you'll prefer it if you have to take the Insterstate because that'll mean fresh snow! Generally yes. However, the storm last New Years closed the Interstate also. Idaho DoT is very good at clearing the roads, so if you can wait a day you can almost always get through. I grew up in Idaho and can only remember 2 times other than last year when family travel plans were changed because of snow. Jeremiah |
