Snow on its way?
Has anyone seen any long range weather forecast recently?
According to one French expert we are in for a cold winter http://www.welove2ski.com/jsp/index.jsp?lnk=201&id=59 . It is true that the amount of snow fall over the Alps this summer has been unusually high and a few resorts seem to have had some encouraging dumps already. Has anyone got any more reports before I invest in new thermal socks? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ XS Peak Retreats http://www.peakretreats.co.uk Ski Collection http://www.skicollection.co.uk |

Walking at around 2000m did not require anything warmer than a T shirt. There was no sign of the snow reported earlier in the month. The nights were, however, clear and cold, but not freezing. The British met ofice is forecasting a colder, drier start to the winter this year becoming warmer and wetter as the season progresses. Though, IIRC, it is saying the temperatures will be above the long term average. The forecast is based on minute fluctations in Ocean currents and temperatures. John |

Snow on its way?
All my local contacts have reported that it's snowing in the French
Alps today, even at village level in places like Morillon. More is forecast for the w/e and places like Val Thorens have apparently already taken 20cm. Still early to shout but can't be bad eh! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ XS Peak Retreats http://www.peakretreats.co.uk Ski Collection http://www.skicollection.co.uk |

The current forecast is for three days at least of falls for the northern French Alps, with snow-line at around 1100m. Air temps are already low and dropping, too, so things could just be set for an early start to the season. Tignes already has great-looking snow on the glacier, so this will really give a few lucky people a good weekend. Tonight's French TV weather map suggests that around the Grand Massif - Flaine, Samoëns, etc. could be a good bet, as usual. To the webcams, then! Once it's light, of course...
