Lenght measuring Differences Between Board Companies????
Hi All,
Question, do board companies measure total board length differently like they do for skis? I ask because I have been riding a Liquid 164 and it IS 164cm from tip to tip (directly, not counting curve of ends). Just yesterday I bought a used Never Summer, specified as a 168. It seemed short for a 168, but bought it anyway since it was only 75 dollars. Anyway, brought it home and it is only 166cm tip to tip, but 168cm if you count the curve of the nose and tail. I'm just wondering which way is the normal way boards are specified? Thanks ahead of time, Ed Arata |

Some companies use cord length as you measured the first board and others
use material length. Still others will put a length on the board that doesn't correspond with any length you could possibly measure. Unfortunately there isn't a standard. The best way to compare board length is through their effective edge. Essentially the amount of steel edge that is effectively used in carving a turn. Question, do board companies measure total board length differently
like they do for skis? I'm pretty sure, yes. I think along the curvature is the most common but I could be wrong. My Donek FC 163 is the same length end-to-end as my Salomon FRS 165. Mike T |
