Summer greetings “ski pals”,

Having thoughts of cold snow & skiing on these hot summer days?

How about a summer ski event to cool you off?

Yuriy Gusev of the Russian-StyleSkiSchool (& fellow MNSC member) is putting
on the

Summer Cross Country Ski Championships

Saturday, August 9th

It will consist of an interval-start 5 kilometer trail run in the morning
and a 6 km (mostly uphill) pursuit-start roller ski in the afternoon. You
may register for either or both (prizes only for both).

For more info, go to Yuriy’s web site at http://rsss-usa.narod.ru/

Course descriptions:

The run:

3 laps on the mile-long John Minx Trail at BlueMoundState Park (20 miles
west of Madison). The John Minx drops for a half a kilometer, rolls upward
for a km, climbs a few hundred meters and ends in a long level straight
away.If possible, lap times will be provided.

The roller ski:

Climb! Climb! Climb!

Both starts will commence at the junction of County Highways “F” & “J”
(north of Blue Mound) and will follow “F” for the entire course

The 3 km junior course climbs a total of 300 feet with mostly steady
climbing and one steeper 300 meter long hill, “Cemetery Hill”, just before
the 2 km point.

Climb! Climb! Climb! Climb! (Dip) Climb! Climb!

The 6 km course starts with the junior course, continues up another 100
vertical feet to the course’s only downhill (a 50 foot vertical straight
shot) at 4 km. It climbs steadily to the 5 km point where it pitches up a
bit more and climbs 200 more feet in the last km. Total vertical climb is
approximately 720 feet. A real challenge! Finish will be
at BrighamCountyPark on “F”.

Car rides will be provided back down to the start area parking.

Junior racers will ski only 3 km.

Roller ski racers will be broken into 2 groups based on by roller ski
speed. “Group A” will consist of those on skis with speeds similar to
Marwes, Elpex F1s or medium speed Pro Skis and will be eligible for prizes.
“Group B” will include all others in a group not eligible for prizes.

Roller speeds will be tested during the run.

All skiers must wear helmets and protective gloves.

Entry fees will be $15 for juniors and $20 for others until August 1st. A
$10 late fee applies thereafter.

Sound a little high? Consider the costs. The $375 liability policy alone
forces fees into this range.

This should be a unique, fun, low-key event with a relatively low turnout
the first year.

Come join the fun!

Race volunteers also needed. Please call.

Entry fees can be mailed to DBA Consulting, c/o Yuriy Gusev, P.O. Box
