XC Skiing with kids in North-East USA
Hi,
Could you please recommend a good cross-country skiing place with kids (12+yrs old) in NY/PA/NH/VT/ME for a few days ? 1) need snow before Christmas (Dec.21-25); 2) lots of trails of about intermediate level; 3) not too boring, so kids don't kill you (smth to do after skiing); 4) some level of comfort (hotels, good restaurants, etc.) 5) not too far from NJ [6-7hrs drive] Optional: some easy mountain might be good to try it once ;-) We have been several times to Lake Placid and in Stowe once [was raining 1/2 time] and liked both. Is there anything good for XC around Poconos ? Catskills ? Thank you in advance, Oleg. |

These *may* have snow at the time you mention. Is there anything good for XC around Poconos ? Catskills ? Unlikely to have snow at the time you mention. -- JT **************************** Remove "remove" to reply Visit http://www.jt10000.com **************************** |

The hotels and restaurants are almost all pretty much dives, but at least they're inexpensive. The touring centers are Salmon Hills (http://www.salmonhills.com/) and Osceola (http://www.uxcski.com/). Salmon Hills also provides lodging in yurts. If you bring your own gear there are plenty of other places to ski at Tug Hill on public land (http://www.visittughill.com/). At the outside edge of your maximum distance from NJ, there's always the Ottawa area. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |

Mountain Top Inn & Resort Chittenden, Vermont Great hotel, great x-c trails some limited snowmaking if Mother Nature doesn't cooperate. Also Mountain Meadows Lodge & Cross Country Ski Center Killington. There are others in the northern part of the state, but these are the only two that I know who have snowmaking as an option. |

Lake Placid in NY (5 hrs of driving) and High Point, NJ (1.5 hrs of
driving). Nothing has changed since 2004 and 2005 (when identical questions have been asked). |
