Default storing skis

How do you store your skis?

Out side of waxing.

Do you hang from tips, they sell ski holders for this and the ski check
at Okemo jackson gored uses this type?
Store as a pair or bases down or up? I am thinking of building a rack
that would have binding hanging down and bases pointed up.
Does anyone back off the binding setting for summer?

My house is very small. Every inch of storage
is precious. For skis (many) I have a horizontal
rack suspended from the garage ceiling which hold
skis off the ground (important). This is similar
to what you suggest except that I strap my skis
together. If I were to add to this setup, I'd
have dust covers as they are in my shop area with
a couple of saws.

I see no problem with any way to support skis except
that they should be off either a dirt floor or a
concrete floor. Standing on tails on a wood floor
would be OK. See an earlier thread for "Spring Tune".

This keeps the edges from getting rusty and causing
a brown streak down the mountain your first run of
the season. Most embarrassing.

That's why you freaks wear diapers. Just in case you see me and have
to run, so you don't leave a brown streak.

I'm ashamed to say that last year I just put them in their bag (whose
zipper I leave open a foot or so for ventilation) without either
cleaning or waxing them. I then lean them against a wall in the
monsterhome (our storage area), which gets really hot during the summer.

Heathen! Shame on you. Always clean and wax your skis before storing
them. The wax keeps the bases from drying out during the off season.
Skis should be cleaned and waxed after every use, not before. Except
during a ski trip, then clean and wax when you get home.

A proper waxing takes only a few minutes. I use a liquid wax applied
with paper towels. Regular towels or rags will get cut up.

Store your skis with the bases together for protection. Wrap a rubber
band around the tips and another around the tails. I store mine in
the basement standing up on the tails in a corner. There they are
least likely to fall over.
