I have an incomplete list of places to stay in the Tahoe area:

If you have more specific preferences, maybe I can whittle down the
list for you.

To answer with another question: how about staying in Nevada? Gardnerville
is less than 1h away from Kirkwood (much more from other areas so I guess
this only applies to Kirkwood skiers) and motels there cost only ~$50 per
night. Any experiences?

Better to stay in Markleeville than Gardnerville. Even nearby
Woodfords has a motel. You'll be closer to Kirkwood, not paying any
more, and you'll likely have the town to yourself.

Scroll down to see Markleeville. J. Marklee Toll Station is decent
and not expensive. Ask for Sandy when you call.
