Default Elbow troubles

I've had to lay off skiing/rollerskiing/weight lifting
for more than 6 mo because of elbow tendon troubles.

I'm not sure if it was weight lifting or skiing
that caused the trouble. Both are a problem
for me now. It seems like I am 90% healed now.
At least I can rollerski a few miles at a time
and weight lift very, very carefully, but
one tendon keeps popping over a bone
when I flex my elbow, and I think it is this
popping that is causing the problem.

I'll see a specialist tomorrow. I'm guessing I might
need to have surgery to correct the problem.

Anyone have any experience in recooperating
from elbow surgery and getting back into
roller/skiing? Anyone have a similar
problem with a popping elbow tendon?

Thanks, Bob Larson

I haven't had your specific problem but have had chronic elbow
problems. Interesting though, I've found that both weights (with
proper range of motion and stretching) and xc skiing are very good for
my elbows. As for therapy, things I've used which really help a a
week or so of NSA's (taken on a strict schedule to keep blood level up
- very importan... which is why I've had very good success with the
prescription once a day meds because it's much easier to remember each
dose and to keep the blood level up for several days. With things like
aspirin or ibuprophen, if you miss a dose it really does affect the
effectiveness), regular icing, and the elastic band that you can get
that keeps some of those tendons in place. I've never had to do the
NSA/ice routine for much more than a week if I am compulsive about it
for that week. Let us know what your doc says.

My trouble was diagnosed as "golfer's elbow". I am on nsaids now,
along with a stretching program and I have a band to wear
that puts pressure on affected tendons. He also gave
me some suggestions about doing wrist curls and similar
exercises as long as the problem seems to be mosly
on the mend.

The doc says the "popping" I am experiencing in the same
area of the elbow is from the ulnar nerve popping out of place, which
is a very common problem and mostly harmless and unrelated to the
tendonitis. Well, that's the diagnosis anyway.

There was a thread about golfer's elbow on this news
group back in 1998 Darrell Rikert wrote up a good summary:
