Sue,

phil knight had a dream. he'd sell shoes. he'd sell dreams.
he'd get rich. he'd use sweatshops if he had to.

Hey guys, this is clearly spam, not related to skiing
(Nike doesn't make ski boots that I know of) and
definitely off-charter.

While I may or may not agree with the sentiments
expressed and I think posting a url might be OK, I don't
think this post (and others like it) should get through.

obski: So why doesn't Nike make ski boots? Since they don't actually
"make" any of the shoes they sell (it's all subcontracted, they just put
the swoosh on it and do the marketing) it wouldn't be that hard for them
to paint a swoosh on a pair of $80 boots and charge $400. If it works
for golf shoes, why not ski boots?

I am sure it is coming, just give them some time to find an athlete to
endorse, then they will start making the equipment. I think that is how
they got into hockey...

It is possible to spoof the moderation headers so that a post gets
propagated without the appproval of the moderators. An aggressive
spammer spoofing headers can go around the moderation, but the
moderation team (or one of the usnet cancelbots) can cancel the posts,
like they did with this one. I think I've seen half a dozen or so of
these "rogue posts" on RSAM, but I haven't really been counting.

To plug this hole would require reconfiguring every news server (and
perhaps the nntp protocol) - I don't think much can be done on the stump
end. Since it's just drive by spam it's not exactly the end of the
world.

Usually messages like this are cancelled fairly quickly and few people
see them unless someone else is foolish enough to reply and include the
original text.

They already endorsed Picabo Street a few years back. But they made some sort
of hiking shoe for her, not a ski boot.
