Default Our Friends In Scandinavia-Peter Northug?

Hello,
Can any of our friends in Europe tell us whats going on with Petter
Northug. www.nrk.com has a headline which looks to read "Northug Star
Over". Is he he ill or can you clue us in on what the story means from
the Norwegian web site. I saw from Davos he had a terrible classic
race result, but thought he was just cruising to recover from the
stellar races the prevous weekend.Thanks.

An online translator turns that article (http://www.nrksport.no/
langrenn/1.6353412) into this passable English:
Petter Northug jr. have chosen to give priority to training up to the

possibility for Eirik Brandsdal and Sindre Wiig Nordby.

Brun-Lie (Njård), Maiken Caspersen Falla (Lørenskog), Ella Gjømle

The headline http://www.nrksport.no/langrenn/1.6353412 isn't as
dramatic as that "står" mean simply "stands"; "star" would've been
"stjerne".

Northug seems to be a very special kind of skier: it's as if he cannot
get 100% out of himself unless he isn't racing man to man for a win
and that he can easily allow himself to fade when he isn't. He isn't
a genuine sprinter, either. Thus he can be astonishing in relays, OK
in mass starts and sprints, but quite mediocre in interval starts.
(The fact that his skating is way better than his classic skiing
doesn't IMHO explain half of this discrepancy in his results.)

BTW if there are any mnemonic monsters and/or statistic nuts out
the could Petter's 55th on Saturday be the all-time worst race
finish by a skier wearing the yellow jersey?

It is on nrksport.no, not nrk.com:

"Petter står over" simply means "Petter takes a pass", i.e. he won't
attend the upcoming sprint event in Düsseldort.

Thanks fellow skiers from Europe for clearing this up. The way Northug
is skiing mass start freestyle races and relays would have a been a
huge loss for the WC this season if he was out for some reason.

Northug won't be the only one who won't start in Dusseldorf - also
Justyna Kowalczyk decided to miss this sprint, just like she did
during last years.

According to the list posted, the whole top layer of the Norwegian
women's team is skipping Dusseldorf. Understandable with the Tour de
Ski starting the next week. I was wondering, if any of our Norwegian
friends know, whether Marit Bjoergen is going to compete in the TdS, or
at least the whole thing. In the interview after Davos, she said the
World Champs are her goal this season. That made me wonder about how
she trained this off season, whether she did the same Helgerud interval
block system or something more like the men, because she's not come out
like gangbusters (only to get sick and fade later). Or maybe everyone
else is faster...
