? early snow: Mountain Meadows VT ?
I notice that Mountain Meadows XC near Killington Vermont has snowmaking.
Their website currently says they've got half a kilometer of trail open for skiing now. Near as I can figure out, they're hoping to have something like 1.5 km (1 mile) open for skiing this weekend: http://www.xcskiing.net/conditions.html But I've never been skiing there, so I'm not sure I want to drive all that way. What's it like to ski there on only their "snowmaking trail"? (I'm mainly interested in skating, not classic.) Ken |

? early snow: Mountain Meadows VT ?
Ken--
I skied there in late 1999 (actually New Year's Eve and New Year's Day = 2000--had a millennium weekend party at the lodge). The snowmaking loop= = is short, but it was groomed for skating as well as classical. Pretty = flat as I recall. Aren't you in New York? Lake Placid sounds much more promising... ? early snow: Mountain Meadows VT ?
Thanks for the report, Derick.
Seems like I'm not the only one who thought about the snowmaking at Mountain Meadows. From a private response, I heard it might be crowded there this weekend. Aren't you in New York? Lake Placid sounds much more promising... New York state is a big place. Some ski areas in Vermont are closer to the metro NYC/NJ area than some in New York state. Like Prospect Mt VT is closer than most southern Adirondack ski areas. And lots of New York downhill skiers are very familiar with the drive to Killington VT (same as Mountain Meadows) -- and prefer it to Whiteface Mt and Lake Placid -- and Killington is pretty convenient to my usual weekend ski base around Glens Falls NY (thanks to Jay Tegeder's recommendation on this newsgroup). Never hurts to have more options: Like the Mt Van Ho website says they're planning to _close_ again on Monday and Tuesday. Ken |
