Felly sgrifennodd Sue :

But I would be surprised if 6 out of 10 people on the pistes are Swiss. I would also expect that Swiss skiers are generally a little safer than, say German or English skiers, who get far less practice and probably are less in condition. Perhaps, on reflection, I'm wrong. In Wengen/Muerren (where I was last week) the majority were not Swiss. However, in Klewenalp, where I was last year, it was difficult to find anyone not Swiss. So it probably just depends on where you are. Even in Switzerland there are weekend skiers from your nearest large urban area. I know; I was one of those some years ago. So it probably just depends on where you are. The proportion of locals to tourists often depends on the weather. Not sure about the Swiss, but the Austrians don't generally go out unless the weather is good. If it's too cold, snowy, foggy etc you'll not find many locals out unless they have to be. |
