Default Question on base layers

Prolly a dumb question, but what-the-hey...I recently bought a couple of
pair of 'base layer' type material, which is touted as both being
wicking material and 'compression' material...the idea, I guess, muscles
recover quicker wearing the stuff because of ...something. I have
noticed an odd thing whilst wearing them...I become fatigued really very
quickly. I'm not sure if it's the material or just coincidence, but it
seems to happen after a two day off period and first skiing. These fit
very very tightly and look rather like a compression stocking material.
I will they they are excellent at wicking, superior even to my normal
Hot Chillies. Ideas? Or is it all in me head?

Preface: This answer does not come from experience, but is instead a
possibility for what you've experienced.

I would wonder about how tight the material is on you. If it's too
tight, I would imagine it's actually causing resistance to your
movements, thus forcing you to perform more work for the same motion.
Even a small resistance that is more than what you're previously worse
to would add up as you continue to struggle against it.
